On September 20, WINDEY’s green methanol project in Handan achieved a significant milestone by being awarded the first International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (hereinafter known as ISCC) for the agricultural feedstock utilized in the production of green methanol. This accomplishment signifies a groundbreaking advancement within the realm of China’s ISCC EU certification scope.
ISCC is a sustainability standard that is firmly grounded in European Union regulations. Its ISCC EU certification serves as a compulsory prerequisite for green products seeking access to the European Union’s energy market. This certification aligns with the European Union’s sustainability standards for various products, including biofuels, bio-liquids, and biomass fuels, as outlined in RED II. This certification will offer robust technical backing to WINDEY’s forthcoming endeavors in certifying its green methanol products.
To accommodate the swift expansion of new energy and guarantee its high-standard development, WINDEY has attained remarkable achievements in broadening the consumption scenarios encompassing “new energy plus”. In January 2024, WINDEY triumphantly inked a contract for the esteemed Green Methanol Preparation Demonstration Zone project in Handan, Hebei Province. This landmark initiative aims to establish the Handan New Energy International Innovation Port, encompassing the entire industrial chain of “WTGS-green electricity-green hydrogen-green alcohol”, thereby setting a precedence in sustainable energy production. The project significantly broadens the utilization of new and clean energy industries in Handan, hence contributing positively to the transformation and enhancement of the region;s industrial, energy, and transportation frameworks.
In May 2024, WINDEY embarked on a strategic collaboration with China Standard Inspection, jointly initiating a comprehensive partnership encompassing the international certification of marine-grade green methanol fuels, full lifecycle carbon emission management, zero-carbon park conceptualization, emission reduction program development, and the establishment of green methanol standards. Through rigorous on-site research, comprehensive data collection, meticulous analysis, and thorough evaluation, the expert team ensured that every facet of green methanol production adhered strictly to international certification requirements and EU standards, thereby establishing a robust foundation for obtaining China’s first ISCC EU certificate.
Currently, WINDEY has successfully implemented a green emission reduction design across crucial stages, including the cultivation, collection, and treatment of raw materials, methanol production and processing, the transportation of raw materials and finished products, as well as storage and trade. It is expected that the reduction in emissions from green methanol per dry ton of marine fuel will surpass the carbon emission reduction standards set by the EU Renewable Energy Directive (RED II) and the “Fuel EU Maritime” regulation by a significant margin.
In the future, WINDEY will embrace this moment as a fresh starting point, prioritizing the tenet of high-quality development. We will uphold scientific and technological innovation as the driving force behind the advancement of green energy, and contribute WINDEY’s expertise and resources to the ongoing construction and development of the global green methanol industrial chain.
